چکیده

Abstract Measuring the scintillation and ionization yields of liquid xenon in response to ultra-low energy nuclear recoil events is necessary increase sensitivity experiments light dark matter. Neutron capture on can be used produce with energies below 0.3 keV NR via asymmetric emission γ rays during de-excitation. The feasibility an measurement using neutron was investigated for Michigan Xenon (MiX) detector, a small dual-phase time projection chamber that optimized high gain. Simulations MiX partial moderator, pulsed generator indicate population isolated from scattering events. Further, rate captures detector by varying thickness pulse width, frequency.

Performance and Fundamental Processes at Low Energy in a Two-Phase Liquid Xenon Dark Matter Detector

We extend the study of the performance of a prototype two-phase liquid xenon WIMP dark matter detector to energies below 20 keV. We demonstrate a new method for obtaining the best estimate of the energy from events, show that fluctuations in recombination limit discrimination for most energies, and reveal a surprising improvement in discrimination below 20 keV, which is crucial for a high-sensi...

Nuclear Exclusive and Semi-inclusive Physics with a New CLAS12 Low Energy Recoil Detector

The 11 GeV beam of the upgraded Jefferson Lab combined with the CLAS12 detector provides a unique opportunity to investigate the internal structure of nuclei and to understand the effect of the nuclear matter on the structure of hadrons. It also allows us to study the properties of QCD by measuring the internal structure of hadrons themselves and by studying the spectrum of the QCD bound states...

Preparation of Neutron-activated Xenon for Liquid Xenon Detector Calibration

We report the preparation of neutron-activated xenon for the calibration of liquid xenon (LXe) detectors. Gamma rays from the decay of xenon metastable states, produced by fast neutron activation, were detected and their activities measured in a LXe scintillation detector. Following a five-day activation of natural xenon gas with a Cf (4× 10 n/s) source, the activities of two gamma ray lines at...

SICANE: a Detector Array for the Measurement of Nuclear Recoil Quenching Factors using a Monoenergetic Neutron Beam

SICANE is a neutron scattering multidetector facility for the determination of the quenching factor (ratio of the response to nuclear recoils and to electrons) of cryogenic detectors used in direct WIMP searches. Well collimated monoenergetic neutron beams are obtained with inverse (p, n) reactions. The facility is described, and results obtained for the quenching factors of scintillation in Na...

First limits on WIMP nuclear recoil signals in ZEPLIN-II: A two-phase xenon detector for dark matter detection

Results are presented from the first underground data run of ZEPLIN-II, a 31 kg two-phase xenon detector developed to observe nuclear recoils from hypothetical weakly interacting massive dark matter particles. Discrimination between nuclear recoils and background electron recoils is afforded by recording both the scintillation and ionisation signals generated within the liquid xenon, with the r...
